FRAGMENTS TO BE EXHIBITED AT FOOTHILLS ART CENTER, GOLDEN, COLORADO

"FRAGMENTS" tests the limits of the mind’s ability to see a complete face when only the slightest suggestion of one actually exists.  This unglazed porcelain "artifact" consists of a mouth, nose and eye which appear as shards of an ancient sculpture.  They hang on a brass stand in relation to each other as they would have appeared on the "original" sculpture.
This work relies on abstract reductivism to stimulate the viewer’s individual interpretation, what scientists call the “beholder’s share,”  the concept that no work of art is complete without an observer’s unique experience, emotions and insight.
